“…greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.”
1 John 4:4b
If you are in a position where you feel overwhelmed by the circumstances of life and that all war has broken out against you, then rejoice! You are in good company. Some of the greatest victories in the bible were in the face of impossible and insurmountable situations. All you have to do is stay in faith, trust God’s promises, and you will be ready to see a miracle!
This is exactly what happened to the prophet Elisha in 2 Kings 6. The king of Syria was waging war against Israel. However, every time he planned an attack, the king of Israel was warned by Elisha, and they avoided the danger. When the Syrian King found out that Elisha was the one providing supernatural information to the King of Israel, he decided he would simply go after Elisha and capture him.
The great host of the Syrian army camped around Dothan at night, ready to capture Elisha in the morning. When Elisha’s servant went out early in the morning, he saw the host and was frightened. However, Elisha’s response was not one of alarm, but instead, he was calm and confident. He responded by saying: “Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them.” 2 Kings 6:16 Elisha then prayed for his eyes to be opened and he saw that the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha. The Syrians had a great host encamped about Elisha, however, The Lord’s host of angel armies was far greater!
Elisha prayed and the army was struck with blindness. He then led them into Samaria to the King of Israel and when the Lord opened their eyes, they saw that they had been captured. Yet instead of having them killed or imprisoned, Elisha commanded that they be given food and released.
We at times experience circumstances that seem overwhelming. However, the Lord has equipped us for victory in and over every situation. When we trust God in the face of impossible circumstances, it activates His promises and His Angel Armies to enforce our victory! 1 John 4:4 declares: “Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.”
Romans 8:28 & 31: “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to his purpose… What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?”
This is why we are instructed to “walk by faith, not by sight”. 2 Corinthians 5:7 Romans 4 reminds of Abraham’s faith in God’s promise that he would become the father of multitudes. Even when he was 100 years old and Sarah was 90 years old, they believed God’s word more than their natural limitations. Sarah was clearly passed age in the natural to have children. Yet, when they chose to believe God over their own bodies (which were as good as dead), the life of God restored their youth and they were able to have Isaac. It says about Abraham in Romans 4:19 “And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sarah’s womb. He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; And being fully persuaded that, what He had promised, he was able also to perform.”
The key to miracles in the face of impossible situations is to be fully persuaded that God will keep His word to us. All you have to do is to find the promise that applies to your situation and speak it in faith. Do not doubt, just believe. When you walk by faith and not by sight you will experience the victory every time!
