God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath He said, and shall He not do it? Or hath He spoken, and shall He not make it good?
Numbers 23:19
God knows how to keep His word. Jeremiah 1:12 says: “Then said the LORD unto me, Thou hast well seen: for I will hasten my word to perform it.”
When Jesus was on the earth, He never wondered if what He said would come to pass. He knew it would. Every promise of God is Yes and Amen in Christ Jesus. Jesus talked about how the word of the kingdom is like a seed you plant in the ground. If you plant it in good ground and keep watering it, it will produce bountifully.
Yet there are so many Christians that have a hard time believing the promises of God in His WORD. Psalm 89:34 says: “My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips.” What God has said, He means. When HE tells us in His WORD that we can have whatsoever we say if we believe and do not doubt, He means it. His word is the ultimate truth. Time and again the scriptures detail how God wants to prosper us, to heal us, to provide for and protect us. Yet many times believers have a challenge taking these promises and standing in faith for their miracles.
Jeremiah 29:11: “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
It is important to have faith in the integrity of God’s word. That HE will indeed do what He says. At times, the root of unbelief for some could be that they aren’t diligent to watch over their own word to perform it. If you don’t put a lot of emphasis on keeping your word to others, then you may have a hard time believing God will keep His.
As Christians we are Jesus’s ambassadors on the earth. As such, we need to be diligent to be men and women of integrity and honor. When we give our word and tell others we will do something, we need to follow through. This includes with our children. We are our children’s representation of God’s living word on this earth. If we don’t keep our word to them, we could be creating challenges for them to believe that God will keep His WORD.
Let your word mean something by standing by the integrity of your word. It can be as simple as telling your wife you will take out the trash or your children that you will take them to the beach. If you are not sure you can do it, then make the commitment to be honest and say you can’t do it. As James 5:12 says: “But above all, my brethren, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or with any other oath. But let your “Yes” be “Yes,” and your “No,” “No,” lest you fall into judgment.” Keep your word as much as is possible. Yes things can come up and cause change, sometimes we can forget or get too busy or have circumstances we didn’t expect. However, this should be the exception and not the rule.
If you find that you have been giving your word too freely, not following through on what you have told others you will do, then take some time to repent. Ask for forgiveness of those around you if need be. Hit the reset button and ask God to show you how you can be more faithful to keep your word. Then be diligent to do your best to do what you say you will do. If you miss it because you become too busy or simply forget, don’t get into condemnation. Ask for forgiveness, then start again. In addition, allow yourself grace. As with anything, it can be easy to fall into legalism in this task. Instead, simply do your best and let love and grace cover the rest. As you place more emphasis on keeping the integrity of your own word, even in the little things, then you will find your faith increases and your ability to believe God increases in His ability to keep HIS WORD. Then watch as God does miracles in your life and those around you!
Luke 21:33
“Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.”
Joshua 23:14
“…and ye know in all your hearts and in all your souls, that not one thing hath failed of all the good things which the LORD your God spake concerning you; all are come to pass unto you, and not one thing hath failed thereof.”
Psalm 15 (NIV)
Lord, who may dwell in your sacred tent? Who may live on your holy mountain? The one whose walk is blameless, who does what is righteous, who speaks the truth from their heart; whose tongue utters no slander, who does no wrong to a neighbor, and casts no slur on others; who despises a vile person but honors those who fear the Lord; who keeps an oath even when it hurts, and does not change their mind; who lends money to the poor without interest; who does not accept a bribe against the innocent. Whoever does these things will never be shaken.
Mark 11:22-25
“And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God: For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.”
2 Corinthians 1:20
“For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.”
Isaiah 55:10-11
“For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.”
