“For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.”
Romans 8:15-17
If you were to pick the greatest heroes from the Old Testament, who would you choose? The bible is filled with accounts of mighty men and women of God who faced seemingly insurmountable challenges; but God through them, did miracles and great exploits. Would you choose Abraham, with whom God made an everlasting covenant? God promised Abraham and Sarah that through them would come nations and kings and that all the families of the earth would be blessed.
There was of course Moses, who God used to deliver His people out of over four hundred years of slavery. God, through the hands of Moses did countless signs and wonders, not to mention the parting of the Red Sea, manna in the desert and water from the rock to mention just a few. Oh yes, and at the age of one hundred twenty years old he still had perfect sight and was healthy and strong enough to climb a mountain!
You might think the greatest miracles happened at the hands of Elijah and then Elisha. Elijah spoke a Word form the Lord and it didn’t rain for three years. He spoke again and it rained. He called fire down from Heaven to consume the sacrifice and defeat the false prophets of Baal. Then he called fire down again to consume the soldiers that had come to try to arrest him. He was translated from place to place as a form of travel so frequently that the people came to expect it.
Then there was Elisha, who spoke a word and the entire army of Syria was blinded. He spoke again and they could see. God, through him, healed Naaman the leper, raised the dead, multiplied the food and so much more.
We can’t overlook Joshua, who by his anointed leadership and God’s power, the walls of Jericho fell flat. They took the promise land and he even spoke to the sun and moon and commanded them to stand still so they could win the battle before dark. Amazingly, the sun and moon obeyed. Time actually stood still!
There was David who slayed the giant, won countless wars and ruled Judah and all of Israel with great wisdom and compassion. His son Solomon then became the wealthiest man to ever live and the wisest up to Jesus.
Daniel was used of God to interpret the dreams of kings and prophecy about things to come. He ruled in great wisdom and chose to obey the Word of God over the king’s order and was thrown in the lions’ den. He then proceeded to use the lions as pillows until he was released unharmed. Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego wouldn’t bow to the idol and as a result the king couldn’t burn them in the fire. They of course were then promoted to great honor and power.
Esther, who through great courage and wisdom, was used of God to save all of the Jewish people throughout the kingdom.
The list goes on and on. God worked through these men and women and gave them the ability to take authority over the weather, over the elements, over time, over poverty, over sickness, over their enemies, over lack, over kingdoms and even over death itself. He gave them wisdom and prophetic insight into things to come and boldness to speak the Word of God in the face of extreme circumstances. This is in the OLD COVENANT!
Yet Jesus said: “Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.” Mathew 11:11
That means, you and I and anyone else who is born again, is greater than the greatest of the people listed in the Old Testament! If they had this kind of authority without being born again, without God dwelling on the inside of them, think what kind of authority we have! We are sons and daughters of the King of Kings and carriers of God’s glory (if we have received Jesus as our Lord and Savior)! We should expect not only to be able to have God do these kinds of signs and wonders through us, but even greater because the greater one lives on the inside of us! Praise God, Hallelujah! As Jesus said: “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.” John 14:12-13
When you think of Jesus’s miracles, what did it involve? He took authority over the weather and the elements. He took authority over lack and multiplied the loaves and fish. He took authority over sickness and healed wherever He went; he took authority over demons and cast them out, and of course, He took final authority over death; DEFEATING IT t once and for all! Oh what a Covenant we have! What great power and authority we have. Speak the Word of God to your circumstances, expect the miraculous to invade your life, expect the victory! You have a new and better covenant built on better promises! Now go, you mighty men and women of valor and change the world by the power of God in you! God dwells on the inside of you! Take the authority God has given you and release it through your mouth by the WORD OF GOD in faith and watch as God moves mightily on your behalf!!
Luke 10:19
“Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.”
Jeremiah 1:9-10
“And the Lord said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth. See, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant.”
James 5:16-18
“The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months. And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.”
2 Corinthians 1:20
“For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.”
1 John 4:4
“Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.”
Philippians 4:13
“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”
Mark 11:22-25
“And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God. For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them. And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.”
Mathew 17:19-20
“Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out? And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.”
