“Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me: and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I shew the salvation of God.”
Psalm 50:23
“Jesus said, I have told my people they can have what they say, but my people are saying what they have.” Charles Capps
Our words have power. By God’s Word the universe and everything in it was spoken into existence. Jesus said in Mark 11:23 “For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.”
Galatians 5:16-18 says: “This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.”
When people walk according to the flesh they are walking by their five senses. What they see, hear, feel, etc is then expressed out of their mouth. As they say what they feel or see, then they get more of it. However, when we get the Word of God in us and release it out of our mouth, it has creative power to change our circumstances. It is the same creative power that created the universe, that resurrected Jesus, that healed the sick, raised the dead… This same Word has power to change our circumstances.
Since the law of the kingdom of God works by and is released by words mixed with faith, then what is the best strategy for the devil to take to hinder you and make you unfruitful? To get you to say what you see instead of what God says. To get you off your love walk, walking in the fleshly realm. To steal the word and make you ineffective by getting you to speak and act out of your feelings instead of the promises of God.
The way we counter this is by soaking in the Word of God. Jesus said when talking to the Pharisees in Mathew 12:34-35 “O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.”
Therefore the key to speaking good things is of course first of all getting born again (a brand new spirit or “heart”, being filled with the Holy Spirit) and then immersing yourself in the word of God. You must get the Word deposited deep into your heart, like good treasure deeply rooted. If you take a sponge and immerse it in water, when you then squeeze it, water comes out. Likewise, when we immerse ourselves in the Word of God, then when the pressure comes and we get squeezed, the Word will come out of our mouths.
You can tell if you need more Word in you by what you say. Do you find yourself complaining about the circumstances, or if a major challenge or great pressure presses you, you find that fear filled words come out of your mouth instead of faith filled words? Is the Word the first and last thing to come out or do you speak what you see? If you find you are saying those things that do not line up with God’s promises, then make a commitment to spend more time in the word. Soak it in like that sponge.
Gloria Copeland said “The victory is in your consistency”. We must as mature believers, not just pray and speak God’s promises in the morning and then later in the day when pressure hits, speak what we feel. Instead we must constantly put a guard over our mouth to speak only what God says about the situation consistently; minute by minute, hour by hour, day by day.
“A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth…” Proverbs 12:14
“A man’s belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled. Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” Proverbs 18:20-21
Our words are so important. Jesus said in John 6:63 “It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing; the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.”
If you need help speaking the Word of God more consistently then take time to immerse yourself in God’s word. Turn off the other inputs of music, tv or anything else that has been taking your attention and instead, like that sponge, soak in God’s Word every free moment you have. Put the Word on while you are doing the dishes, exercising, or driving on your commute.
In addition, take time to pray in the spirit, in your heavenly language. Jude 20 says: “But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost..”
1 Corinthians 14:14 “For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful. What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.”
1 Corinthians 14:2 “For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God; for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.”
When you take time to pray in tongues this not only edifies your own spirit, but it helps teach your tongue to unhook from your brain and be hooked up and led by your spirit. When you pray in tongues, you are speaking directly from your spirit instead of from your head, so that your tongue gets used to waiting to hear what the spirit has to say instead of just saying what you think.
Make the choice today to let your tongue be set on fire from heaven. The kind of fire that burns up lack, sickness, debt, sin and anything else in your life that needs to go! Speak life, Speak God’s Word and watch the mountains move!
