“But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in in you. Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God.”
Romans 8:11-16
When I was in bible school at Rhema bible college, one morning the Lord gave me a warning vision. I was getting ready for school that morning, brushing my teeth. Suddenly in the mirror I saw my mouth full of blood. I blinked and looked again and there was nothing. I continued brushing my teeth, then again I looked and saw a mouth full of blood. I looked again and there was nothing. Soon I realized I was having a warning vision. I asked the Lord to show me. It was like a movie screen as I had a vision. I saw myself in my car driving on a specific road to school. I came to a stop sign and from behind me, another car slammed into me so hard that I hit my head and face on my steering wheel and busted all my teeth. Blood began gushing from my mouth. I realized this was a warning of something the devil had planned to do against me. I thanked the Lord for letting me know. I prayed and bound the attack and released God’s angels for my protection. I praised God that it was done. I finished getting ready and drove to school.
Soon, I was in my car at that exact spot in the vision. I looked behind me and saw this car coming at me at a very high speed, just like in the vision! Then all of a sudden it did a U turn and came to a stop. It never touched me.
Later when I arrived at school, I found out the story of the other car. My friend’s roommate was driving the car and that morning it’s as if something had come over him. He was driving very fast and recklessly. He saw my car stopped at the stop sign but his roommate was in the driver’s seat barreling towards me. He thought “Oh no, that’s Garry, we are going to hit him!” Suddenly, however, the car made a U-turn. His room-mate finally came back to his senses. He told him that he hadn’t touched the wheel. Somehow the car turned on its own.
I knew it was the Angel of God protecting me as a result of my prayer. When we take time to hear from the Lord and obey, to be sensitive to the leading of His Spirit, then He is able to speak to us and to guide and protect us more effectively. How much that is needed now, as we navigate these unusual times in our Nations history! As so many seek answers for the current situation, we know the answers lie within us. As believers in Christ, the Holy Spirit dwells in us. He is well able to help us successfully navigate these times!
1 John 2:20 says: “But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.”
Jeremiah 33:3 says: “Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things which thou knowest not.”
The Lord is constantly talking with us. The questions is, are we tuned into the right station? If you have an AM and FM radio, you may be listening on the AM band, but if you simply turn to the FM station you can hear FM on your radio. The signal is there all the time and the broadcast is going on, you simply have to turn to the right channel. In order to tune into “God’s channel” we need to be sensitive to His leading. Just as when you are married and you spend a lot of time with your spouse, you are able to recognize their voice without even seeing them. You can even pick out their voice in a crowd of people. It is the same with the Lord. The more time we spend in His Word and in prayer, the more we recognize His voice. We tune into His frequency.
Often when we pray it’s easy to pray all the things we need and desire. Yet, do we take time to listen to God’s response? Are we sensitive to that still small voice leading us? The Lord will speak to us differently at times. Sometimes the Lord speaks to us simply through having peace in our hearts versus a warning light. In the above case he led me through an open vision. However, often it’s simply that still small voice or knowing in your heart. Many times He will speak to us through His Word; a scripture will be highlighted more in our hearts as we read and hear the Word. Other times He may speak through a closed day or night vision. This is a vision you do not see with your eyes, but instead with your heart in your mind. At times He will use others to speak a word into our lives. No matter how He speaks to you, it is always important to remember to make sure what you are seeing or perceiving lines up with the Word of God. If it violates God’s Word, then it is not the Lord. When He speaks to you, it will always line up with His Word. As 2 Corinthians 13:1 says: “…In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established.“
The more time you spend listening to and obeying the Lord’s direction in your life, the more you will learn to discern His voice when He is speaking to you. Every day, make sure to take time for the Lord. Get to know Him more intimately. Spend time praising Him, reading His Word and praying in your heavenly language. Then take the time to just listen to what He is saying. He may speak to you through an image in your head, a scripture or just a leading or impression in your spirit.
The more you listen, the more you will hear.
