“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths.
Proverbs 3:5-6
In the book of Genesis, the Lord shares the account of Joseph’s life. God gave Joseph a dream showing the stars, sun and moon bowing down before him. Of course, his family recognized that the dream meant that Joseph would be raised to a position of such great authority that they too would be bowing to Joseph. Not surprisingly his brothers became very jealous, especially because their father had already given Joseph a special coat that recognized him as the most favored amongst his brothers.
However, the prophetic dream did not appear to go as planned when Joseph’s brothers kidnapped and sold him into slavery. In a split second, Joseph’s dreams appeared to be annihilated. Instead of being exalted to the highest position, he was thrown into society’s lowest estate. Yet, instead of giving into depression and despair, Joseph chose to trust God’s plan for his life, even when he couldn’t understand it, and even when it seemed impossible.
After years of working diligently, he was promoted to the highest position in Potiphar’s estate. He was placed in charge of everything and everyone that Potiphar owned. However, yet again he was betrayed. He was falsely accused by Potiphar’s wife and thrown into prison. For many people this would crush their hope and faith, and they would give up in despair. Yet instead of giving up on the dream, Joseph chose to trust God. He again gave his best in prison, working diligently as unto the Lord. As a result, the prison keeper noticed his excellent spirit and eventually placed him in charge of running the entire prison. It was in this lowest estate that the door was opened to his destiny, and he was promoted to the highest level of authority. Overnight, Joseph was suddenly propelled to greatness. Through a series of God designed events he was brought before Pharaoh, who then promoted him to the highest position in his kingdom. The only person with more authority than Joseph was the Pharoah himself. Everyone in the known world (including his brothers) had to bow to his authority. It seemed like an overnight success. Yet instead, it was Joseph making daily decisions to give his best, walk in faith and trust God’s plan.
God will place seemingly impossible dreams and desires in our hearts. It is up to us to stay the course and believe the best when everything around appears to be going the opposite direction. If we keep our eyes and our hearts fixed on God’s promises and trust His plan for our life, it will surely come to pass, even when it looks impossible. Stay the course, do not fear. Trust that God is well able to bring it to pass despite how it looks.
