“And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God. For verily I say unto you that whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them. And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have aught against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.”
Mark 11:22-26a
In the above scripture you will notice that Jesus did not tell us to pray for God to move the mountain. He told us to speak to the mountain that it be removed. He is letting us know the authority we have through our words combined with God’s word! Our words have great power. Job 22:28 describes it this way: ‘Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee; and the light shall shine upon thy ways.” Both these scriptures, being thousands of years apart, tell us the same thing. We are to decree and it will come to pass. The key is that our words must be combined with faith to have power.
Thousands of years ago, David understood this concept. In 1 Samuel 17 we see the account of David and Goliath. All the soldiers in Israel were terrified of the giant. Yet when David saw and heard him, he had no doubt that he could defeat him. David was only a boy and had not ever fought in war. Yet he knew he could defeat this giant who was a seasoned soldier, because David understood his covenant rights. He let King Saul know that he would single handedly fight and defeat Goliath because God would battle for him. He explained that Goliath had no covenant with God, but he and the armies of Israel had a covenant and all the promises that go with it. David was so confident in the promises of God that every time he spoke, he decreed faith. When he met Goliath, the scriptures share this account: “Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield; but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied. This day will the LORD deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcasses of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air and to the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. And all this assembly shall know that the LORD saveth not with sword and spear: For the battle is the LORD’S; and He will give you into our hands.” 1 Samuel 17:45-47 Even many unbelievers know the story of David and Goliath and how David defeated the giant that day, just as he said he would.
Some might say “I’ve tried believing and speaking in faith to my circumstances, but it didn’t work for me.” Yet, it did work for them just as they believed. They believed it wouldn’t work and said it didn’t work, so their words combined with faith brought to pass exactly what they believed and spoke. However, when you build and feed your faith on the word of God, you will get to the place where you truly believe and then speak. That’s when you see the mountains move and the giants slayed!
This is demonstrated beautifully by the Centurian in Mathew 8. His servant was very sick and needed healing. He knew Jesus could heal him, so he let Jesus know about the situation. Jesus responded and said he would come and heal his servant. Yet the centurion was so full of faith and had such an understanding of the power of the spoken word, that he didn’t even need Jesus to come to his servant. “The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed. For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, do this, and he doeth it.” Mathew 8:8-9 Jesus of course did exactly what was requested, and the servant was immediately healed. The centurion understood the power and authority of the spoken word.
In John 14:12-14 Jesus tells us the following: “Verily, verily, I say unto you. He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask anything in my name, I will do it.”
Jesus is letting us know the power He had on earth, we have as well through Him. Therefore, once we pray and ask the Father for something in Jesus’ name, then it is time for us to thank Him that it is done. From that point on, we simply speak to our situation what we believe we have received and praise God for it. We no longer need to ask the Lord about it again. We trust that it is finished. This process works the same for healing, finances, restoration in relationships and beyond. The key is to first make sure that what you are requesting lines up with God’s will. Next, find the promises of God that applies to your situation. Then, make your request and believe you receive. Finally, make your decree to the situation and then praise and thank the Lord that it is done! If the enemy tries to make you doubt, you simply keep your words lined up with what you have received and keep thanking and praising God for the victory! Your mouth and words are the key to seeing the mountains moved in your life! Remember you have WORD POWER!
