“A man’s belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled. Life and death are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.”
Proverbs 18:20-21
“…The seed is the word of God.” Luke 8:11b
In Luke 8, Jesus tells the parable of the Sower. He describes how a man sowed seed on different kinds of ground. Some seeds fell on rocky ground, others on thorny ground, while some fell on good ground. He then explained that the seed was the Word of God and when sown on good ground it produced fruit in their lives. The good ground in Luke 8 was described as an “honest and good heart”. In Mathew 13:23 Jesus describes the good ground as one who “heareth the word, and understandeth it, which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.”
When we receive God’s word with faith, it bears fruit in our lives. However, how is that word sown? For someone to sow the word, they must speak it. Therefore, if you speak God’s word in faith, you are planting a seed that will surely bring forth fruit, if it is planted in a heart of faith. It is important to know however, that not only is God’s word seed, but our words are seeds too, as shown in Proverbs 18:20-21.
Fruit originates from a seed that becomes a tree or plant that then bears fruit. Therefore, if we are planting seeds of life (God’s word spoken in faith), then our lives will be filled with good fruit. However, if we speak negative words of doubt and unbelief and even curses, these seeds will produce negative outcomes, basically thorns and weeds that choke out the good things in our lives. The seeds of negative words ultimately bring death to dreams, to finances, to health, to relationships, to peace of mind and more.
What is a seed? A seed is basically a container. It carries within itself the ability to produce. Once planted in the ground and then watered, it will germinate. After germination it will begin to grow and take root. Some seeds produce tomatoes, others flowers and others enormous trees. There are multitudes of different seeds. However, a rose flower seed will not produce an avocado tree. Neither will a dandelion seed produce a cherry blossom tree. Each seed will produce whatever it contains on the inside. Whatever is genetically coded into the seed is what it will produce.
The same is true with our words. Whatever is coded into our words Is what they will produce. If you are desiring finances, then you cannot speak word seeds of lack. These seeds are genetically coded to produce more lack. If you desire good health, you cannot talk about how sick you feel. We must speak word seeds that line up with what we desire. Our words will either produce life or death in our lives over time.
When the seed is planted it begins to germinate. If you keep watering that seed, it will eventually grow larger and take root. Therefore, make sure you speak those things that you desire to grow and take root. Once you speak the word in faith, then continue to water that word by standing firm on your confession of faith and adding patience. Through faith and patience, we inherit the promises of God. (see Hebrews 6:12)
If a farmer sowed seed in his field and then a week later became angry that it hadn’t produced a crop yet, you might think that the farmer needs to learn more about seed time and harvest. Under normal circumstances, seed does not sprout overnight. Instead, it may take weeks to months to produce a harvest. In the case of trees, it can take years to produce a harvest. However, a patient and wise farmer will understand this and continue watering his plants, knowing that harvest time will come. A foolish farmer would stop watering his plants out of frustration that they hadn’t produced yet, or even worse, might dig them up.
Let us be like wise farmers who choose to plant our word seeds in good ground and patiently continue to water that seed until we receive the desired fruit. Let us stand firmly on God’s word, only saying what we hear Him say and letting Him do the works! Keep speaking the promises of God over your life and get excited because you will bring in the harvest! “He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.” Proverbs 126:6
