If you backlight a spider with a flashlight, the shadow he projects is huge. With eight creepy legs, he can overtake you and wrap you up in his web to eat later.
But it’s a shadow; the actual bug is a tiny nuisance you can flick away with a finger.
Similarly, Satan loves magnification. Every lie he tells gives him size and power. He aims to demoralize us by saying Chris-tianity is weak. Church attendance is down, evangelists just want your money, Jesus has become the J-word.
But is this true? A giant church in Hollywood with acres of parking sat empty for some years, until Korean Christians bought the property, and now it’s packed. They’re not speaking my language, but Christianity doesn’t need English to survive.
Then on basic cable, there are at least 5 Christian channels, night and day. Three in English, one in Armenian, one in Korean, and one in Spanish. Somebody’s watching.
Then David tells us the truth in Psalm 23. “Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of my enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.”
A full table stands between us and our enemies, precious oil anoints us with beauty, and our cup overflows. Magnify the Lord with Psalm 23 and the rest is just a shadow.
