“In war, then, let your great object be victory, not lengthy campaigns.”
Sun Tzu (THE ART OF WAR)
This quote is from a classic book on combat strategy written in the 5th Cen. B.C. by the Chinese teacher Sun Tzu.
Clearly, Satan is into lengthy campaigns. He nags, lies, waits, and harasses pretty much 24/7. Even if your life is blessed beyond measure, he will tell you, this can’t last. He’s a vicious enemy, who wants to wear us out until we give into depression, disease, poverty, and death.
So a few tactics from a book on warfare are helpful. Jesus comes 500 hundred years later and solves the whole problem, but Sun Tzu’s tips are still valuable.
His main point is that war is costly, in both human life and money. You can run out of supplies, bog down, and lose heart. In other words, before that happens, PLAY TO WIN.
Satan doesn’t say ‘good morning;’ he says, “bad hair day, too much work, back hurts, getting older.”
NONSENSE, SHUT-UP, and LIAR are appropriate responses, but instead, I say I’m too tired, nagged by a demon that loves to prolong the fight.
That’s when it’s time for the big gun. (Exodus 14&15)
“The Lord shall fight for you and you shall hold your peace…and the Lord overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of the sea…and they were dead upon the sea shore…the Lord is my strength and my song and I will exalt him.”
Praise God. His great object is always victory.
Happy New Year.
