This week, Youth Pastor Kel Mitchell of Spirit Food Christian teaches a message titled “The Thermostat Believer”. In this thought-provoking message, Pastor Kel uses a thermometer and a thermostat to illustrate some basic principles pertaining to our faith. A thermometer starts with its own temperature. That temperature only changes when it reacts to the environment that it’s put in. The thermometer is transformed by the environment. As Christians, we must be careful not to be transformed by negative events in our environment. Conversely, a thermostat is used to regulate and set the temperature of the environment. However, for that to happen, we must tell the thermostat the temperature of the environment we want to create. Once we set the thermostat to a given temperature, the changes are not immediate. We must give the thermostat time to either heat or cool the environment before it reaches the level that we wanted. As Christians, we need to be less like a thermometer, and more like a thermostat having faith in God’s word that the changes we desire will appear in our environment.
